    Stolen Bike (Trek 2300)

Had one of my bikes stolen from my garage over the weekend. It is pretty distinct, and I would appreciate knowing if anyone sees it.

It is a bright metal-flake yellow Trek 2300. White "Trek" with black drop shadows. Bought at Guthries (had a Guthries sticker and a red SL County sticker down the bottom of the down tube- maybe still does). Aero bars, and set up for a Flight Deck CycleComputer- I have the computer here (I was inside setting the time when the bike was stolen!) Small case under the saddle with tool kit and CO2 cartridges.

Bike is a 1999, so not worth a ton of money, but like anyones bike, it is personal. I have serial numbers and all documentation to prove ownership, as well as police reports. It was stolen in Murray on Sunday Sept 5, and spotted at a Pawn Shop in South SLC a half hour later, so Pawn Shops are probably where this is headed. Two guys, one 20ish, one 40ish.

If you have a lead, please call me at 288 1781 or send me a message

    Thanks!

    Dave

    Re: Stolen Bike (Trek 2300)

I had a similar theft on Monday. Also in Murray.

The bad guys got my daughter's Fuji Ace road bike while it was hanging from hooks in the garage. For some reason the morons left behind a Pinarello Prince and a Fuji D6 Pro TT bike among a few other bikes. So we're not looking at the sharpest knives in the drawer, here.

My kid's bike is white, has cyclocross brakes added to the handlebar and tiny little 24 inch wheels.

The value isn't terribly high, but my daughter feels attached to it -- it was her 'race bike' and she enjoyed riding it.

If spotted, give me a call at 599-9268

    I ride, I write.

I feel bad for your daughter. Call the cops, and check the pawnshops. I missed my bike by a couple hours at one pawn shop (who passed on it).

Check Jumpin Jacks in Murray.  They seem to be a hotspot for stolen bikes.  They will always deny that they have it but it's probably in the storage area out back.

    Re: Stolen Bike (Trek 2300)

GREAT NEWS!!!!!! By diligently watching around town and online, I found my bike. It was EXACTLY where the Burglary detective said it would be, at Jumpin Jack Cash "Pawn" shop in Murray. Seems that store is looked at as a pipeline for stolen bikes, at least according to the detective I spoke with.

Saw the bike on eBay this morning, called the cops and we met at JJF at noon and I got my bike back. Well, the cops have it now, but I will be getting it.

    Re: Stolen Bike (Trek 2300)

wow climbbig, I did not notice your reply- thanks... and well read! You certianly called that one. I think you just have to wait two weeks after it is stolen for it to turn up at Jumping Jack Cash... while they seem to have no problem buying and selling stolen bikes, they do wait the two weeks that they have to before selling it. And as to reporting those serieal numbers, in this case, they weren't even close- looks like they made up the number they reported. No wonder it did not turn up when the cops did the computer search!
