Hi all,
IMPORTANT! Please observe the following protocol for timing chip usage at all UCA events. FYI: use of a timing chip is not an option. You must either own or rent a chip to be scored at all UCA events.
Before the next race: If you have not already done so, make sure your chip code is entered on your profile at sportaseonline. Here are the instructions:
Go to new.sportsbaseonline.com and sign in (upper right-hand corner). Your sign in on this site is the same as the old SBO site.
Go to “Profile” (upper right-hand corner).
Click on the “Cycling” tab.
Scroll down to the “Winning Time Chip Code” box.
Enter your chip ID found on the front of your chip.
The timing chip must be mounted on the front fork and be oriented vertically. The best way is with the chip right side up (numbers at the bottom) and facing out. Please don't mount your chip in any other location, or you run the risk of not being scored. Chips carried in your jersey pocket will probably not read.
At the races: If you did not pre-register for the event at sportsbase, make sure you have your chip code with you at sign up and relay the code to the folks there. They need that number to register you on "day of" even if the code is entered in your Sportsbase profile! Either take the chip with you or write the code down. If you did pre-register for the event and have entered your chip code on your Sportsbase profile, you are set!
The system will work as advertised. The scoring errors so far have been overwhelmingly anomalies created by: no chip, improper mounting, no chip code, chip code in the system but registered "day of" and no code given then, switching chip with your teammate, chip in your pocket, etc.
Please be responsible, follow the protocol, and check your results after the race. Make any protests in the 15 minute time period, and stay to check again. This is especially important as we gain momentun on the scoring system so we can learn.
Also, you still have to wear your number, even if you have your chip dialed in. The jersey numbers are a back up just in case.
Thanks, Jeff Clawson
